Asymmetrical Aluminum Alloy Component via 3D Printing & Sand Casting

This is an aluminum alloy body fabricated using advanced 3D printing technology, featuring an asymmetrical frame structure with a uniform length profile. On the left side, a circular mounting seat with precision-drilled fastening holes securely holds cylindrical components. The central section consists of a support arm designed with cavity-reduction optimization for weight reduction and structural efficiency. On the right, an integrated platform features multiple mounting holes, enabling the secure installation of various components such as sensors, plates, and electronic modules.

Manufacturing Process Steps

  1. Mold Preparation & Pouring: The sand mold is meticulously shaped to match the product’s complex geometry. Molten aluminum is then injected into the mold cavity under precisely controlled pressure. After complete solidification and cooling, the sand mold is carefully removed, revealing the raw cast component.
  2. Surface Finishing & Precision Machining: The initial casting undergoes manual cleaning followed by shot blasting to eliminate residual sand and casting flash. It then proceeds to high-precision CNC Milling: critical reference surfaces are milled with tolerance maintained within ±0.03 mm. All positioning holes are accurately drilled and reamed using CNC drilling and retraction systems, ensuring dimensional accuracy within ±0.02 mm.
  3. Surface Treatment – Natural Anodizing: The final step involves natural anodization through electrochemical oxidation, forming a dense, durable oxide layer on the surface. This significantly enhances corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and surface hardness—ideal for demanding industrial applications.
